Defining Rural Character

Everyone agrees - we love our "Rural Character". But what exactly does rural character look like? It might look different to everyone, but I would guess there would be some basic similarities. So I am proposing a contest.

Put your thinking caps on, get your creative juices flowing, and send in your interpretation. You could take a photo, write a poem or an essay, draw or paint a picture, create a sculpture. Anything that expresses your concept of what rural character is.

The Open Space Citizen's Committee is hosting a workshop on March 17, 2004 at the Wittenbach Center across from the High School. (Contact Mari Stone at 897-5671 x2, or clerk@vergennestwp.com for more information) We will display the entries there, and ask attendees to vote for their favorites. I'm not sure what the prize will be at this point, but we'll come up with something. It will be fun just to see what everyone comes up with. You can bring in your entry during office hours in February, or send by mail anytime to PO Box 208, Lowell, MI 49331.
